If you only do one thing for your skin, make it SPF. Here's why sun protection is non-negotiable and how to use it correctly.
UV radiation is the single biggest cause of premature skin ageing, pigmentation and skin cancer. It damages DNA in skin cells, breaks down collagen and elastin, and triggers melanin production that leads to uneven skin tone.
Crucially, UV damage accumulates over a lifetime — even on cloudy days, even indoors near windows. This is why daily SPF use is the most impactful thing you can do for your long-term skin health.
Look for a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, which protects against both UVA (ageing) and UVB (burning) rays. SPF 50 is recommended for daily use, particularly if you spend time outdoors or have pigmentation concerns.
Modern SPF formulations are lightweight, non-greasy and suitable for all skin types — including oily and acne-prone skin. If you've avoided SPF in the past due to texture, it's worth trying a newer formula.
